What is it?

How does it work?

As part of the Project management strategy at design stage, there is a need to consider and formulate a policy on all issues affecting industrial relations. This policy will cover things such as working rule agreements to be followed, hours of work, shift patterns, productivity systems, accommodation, canteens and other welfare facilities, first aid and safety procedures etc. They all have an impact on how the construction areas are organised and allowances in the Contractors price

The policy is then ideally formalised and published in a document and titled "Site Industrial Relations Code of Practice"

On multi-contractor, multi-discipline projects it is also good practice to constitute a Site Management Group, involving all of the Main Contractors on site, with the responsibility to discuss and monitor the implementation of the code of Practice throughout the duration of the construction activities.
